2018 Fantasy Football Grades

This is the 4th draft of the 10 Guys 1 Blog fantasy football league and this year we graced New Orleans with our presence. Every year we do a destination draft and New Orleans did not disappoint. Blogs of the trip to come.

As the commissioner, I take the role of grading everyone’s team. The way we decide our draft order shows exactly what type of human beings we are. We take 10 shot glasses and fill 9 of them with a clear alcohol, this year was Gin. The 10th shot glass has water and whoever gets the water shot is out. We then take 9 shot glasses and 8 have Gin and 1 with water and so on…

Whoever gets the last shot of Gin gets to choose what draft position they want and the second to last shot chooses next until all picks are taken.

Below are the grades for each team in no specific order.

Space Ghost: B+

Space Ghost had the 4th pick in the draft and was the pick I wanted most. The reason I had so much value on the 4th pick, was that it allowed you to get any of the top 4 RBs and still be able to get a top-tier player in the second round. Spaceghost went Ezekiel Elliot followed by Christian McCaffrey. This is what I would have done in that position and it allowed Space Ghost the ability to get two quality RBs in a year with very few. Mike Evans and Demarious Thomas are two talented WRs that had underperforming years in 2017. Hopefully, with Denver adding Case Keenum and revamping their offensive line, we will see a bounce back year for Denver’s WR core. Space Ghost took two QB’s in round 12 and 13 which has its pros and cons. He waited later in the draft to get a QB, so instead of gambling on just Kirk Cousin in a new team, he grabbed Matthew Stafford as a handcuff. Space Ghost has a pretty easy schedule this year and should easily make the playoffs.

John Denver: C

John Denver knew who he wanted and wasn’t afraid to reach for them. I don’t hate his team, but I feel he could have added more quality players and still grabbed some of his picks in a later round. JD had the 5th pick and took Alvin Kamara, after watching him have a stellar rookie season I do not see him falling off in his sophomore year. Grabbing LeSean McCoy with the second pick give him two quality RBs. Andrew Luck is a great QB who hasn’t played in 18 months. Although he came back looking like a Greek god, he didn’t seem to  have the same zip on his throws this pre-season. For your sake let’s hope he is just getting back into football shape. Props on drafting Chris Thompson this year instead of trading Gronk for him.

PRKR: B

I am going to start this out by saying you were a C+, but having LeVeon Bell on your team jumped you up a grade. No matter how you feel about him, he is easily the most talented player in the NFL. Now with that being said you are littered with RBs who should be on your bench at all times. Jamaal Williams is a talented back but plays in a Green Bay offense that has one of the best QBs of all time. Aaron Rodgers is so talented he takes a lot away from the run game. Green Bay does keep defenses honest with running the ball and we have seen players like Eddie Lacey flourish on that team. Micheal Thomas and AJ Green are great WR to have, but Golden Tate is a crap shoot every week. Also, I am hoping Russel Wilson falls off, but I say that every year.

*Disclaimer I wrote this before I knew LeVeon Bell didn’t show up to practice on Monday. As for now, we will give him the benefit of the doubt that he’ll be there week 1/2.

Michelle: B-

You know when the teacher pulls you aside and tells you that you have all of the potential in the world and needs you to focus more? That is your team. With the 8th pick, you grabbed Julio Jones and I can’t blame you for that. I personally would have grabbed an RB, just because of the limited amount of top tier RBs. Dalvin Cook was on his way to rookie of the year until he tore his ACL last season and if he gets back on the path you’ll be golden. Drake has a lot to prove as well as JuJu and Davante Parker. Mike Williams and Mark Ingram on your bench may be your saving grace after week four. You also got a steal with Gronk at the end of the third round, literally one pick before I was going to get him. High ceiling low floor.

Dr. Karatechop: A

It should be known that I’m only giving him an A because he is our current champ. In reality, I think his team is B material, but with his track record he got bumped to an A. David Johnson with the first pick was a solid choice, however keep in mind it was a small injury that derailed his season last year. I like DaVante Adams, but the rest of your WRs worry me. Josh Gordon has all the talent in the world, but if he can’t get his mind right with a shitty head coach he will be a dud. Drew Brees is in the same group as Tom Brady being an aged QB who won’t stop producing. Who knows if this is the year he falls off. Two back-up Green Bay RBs is pretty ballsy, but you are the reigning champ. It should be noted for our audience that Dr. Karatechop and myself are FF arch nemesis. Here’s to $100 on week one.

Bread: C-

As fate would have it, you drafted Jerick McKinnon in the second round which I felt was a reach. A mere 45 minutes later it was announced he tore his ACL and would be out for the season. He must have sensed you picked him and promptly chose to tear his ACL rather than play. Your only saving grace may be your WRs. Fortunately you have enough stock to wave your big dick around and trade one in the hopes of salvaging the year. OBJ is a freak of nature and choosing him over Antonio Brown was a bold move. I love Engram as your TE and think he’ll be a top 7 TE this year. Good luck buddy.

Owen W: C

Phillip Rivers in the 7th round shows your lack of preparation. You could have potentially picked him in the 12-14 round with ease. You grabbed Hopkins with the 10th pick and picked Saquan Barkely right after that. I’m not big on Saquon and would have grabbed Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook or Kareem Hunt before him. Gambling that hard on a rookie always makes me nervous. Greg Olsen is the ageless wonder and you grabbed a talented Njoku who unfortunately is on the Browns. I think Mixon will be good, but not great. My bet is Phillip Rivers will not be your starting QB by week seven. Next draft, hit the Juul less and prepare more.

Duttin: C+

You have Kareem Hunt, a RB who started hot and fizzled out. I love Freeman for Denver, but he is a rookie behind a young O-line. The rest of your RBs are backups. Antonio Brown and Aaron Rodgers could carry you into the playoffs. I also love Pierre Garcon with Jimmy G and think he’ll be a breakout WR this year. Your bench is the worst bench out of everyone in the league. I wish I could write more, but I’m honestly bored out of my mind looking at your roster.

Shit Balls: A-

My lovely editor in chief, this is the first year I have actually been proud of your picks. With the second pick, you grabbed Todd Gurley who is an absolute beast on a high powered offense. Devonte Freeman, Keenan Allan, and Amari Cooper are great starting skill players and you add Tom Brady as your QB. I don’t think Brady will be top 5 QB in fantasy, but I’m willing to bet he’ll be a top 10. I’m not that high on Dion Lewis as your Flex, Cooper Kupp should come off your bench and take over that spot. As always you drafted Kyle Rudolph but picked up Jordan Reed as well. I don’t usually like drafting two TEs, but in a two flex league if Reed stays healthy you grabbed a steal. The student has become the master.

Commish: A+

With the 9th pick I skipped on Deandre Hopkins and grabbed Melvin Gordon. Two picks later I grabbed Leonard Fournette and stacked up on two very talented RBs. Doug Baldwin and Brandon Cooks are not the flashiest of  WRs, but will likely be top level and should hold me over. Travis Kelce is easily the number 2 TE in the league and is leaps ahead of the rest of the field. Hoping that Crowell or Barber pop off and are great trading material after week 5. And for my favorite pick of the draft… Deshaun Motherfucking Watson. Came in at halftime of week 2 and put in a cool 17 points. As a starter, he averaged 29.08 points a game and had a freak non-contact injury in practice. Dabo Sweeny coached Watson in college and talked about him at the same level as Michael Jordan.

Tighten up your jockstraps, cause the season is here boys.
