HOV. H to the O-V.
No…. no, unfortunately it’s not. I have to remind myself of that every morning after waking up from a dream about partying on a flying megayacht in Ibiza. I’m pretty much the exact opposite of what most rappers look like and represent. However, about 90% of the music I listen to, and have listened to since I was 5 years old is rap. Whenever other kids were playing Monopoly or some shit, I’d be the kid rapping along to Hypnotize by Notorious B.I.G. on my Nickelodeon radio.
What I love about rap is not necessarily the lyrics all the time, but more so the flow, rhyme play, timing, instrumentals, and just that feeling it gives you to go out there and make today your bitch. So in future posts, expect me to do entire posts, or at least throw in references related to rap lyrics/trends. Now look, I know a white guy from the desert, that grew up with virtually zero hardships in a middle class family is not exactly who you want telling you about the state of rap, but I’m pretty much expecting to only write these things for my own pleasure and 9 other idiots, so frankly I don’t give a shit.
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I’m a scientist by training a recently got a PhD in Cancer Biology (I told you I was the exact opposite of a rapper). I mention this for three reasons.
- It gives you a better understanding of where my perspective is coming from
- It explains why I’ll occasionally be writing similar “explain it like I’m 5 posts” about cancer and biology in general, like Space Ghost is doing with physics.
- Doing a PhD is a very interesting (and brutal) experience that not many people understand (other than Toothless here), so I’ll probably be posting some of my perspectives about it, and why you should care.
Don’t worry, unlike your vegan friend that does crossfit and thinks their farts are “acccctuallly” reducing greenhouse gas levels, I’ll only mention anything about my degree when it’s the central topic of the post. Right off the bat I’ll just say having a PhD just means I know a lot about a little and a little about a lot, or at least I know good strategies to learn a little more.
Lastly, because I know the average person my age has an attention space no larger than their savings account and you might be saying to yourself “I don’t care, wrap it up B”, expect me to follow the theme of the other 9 degenerates of 10Guys1Blog and talk about fantasy football. I’ll be journaling my epic quest to becoming the first back-to-back winner of The Broly Grail. I’m not saying my opinion is the most credible, but I do know more and have also been more successful than any of these other wannabes (so yeah, that is what I’m saying).
Actually, one last note. Although these are the three topics I’ll be talking about most. My ADHD brain will likely take me on random tangents about god knows what, including what ADHD is like and why I think it’s not an excuse for being lazy.

Until next time my fellow karate choppers.
Love,
Dr. K
